Olivia and Windell’s Lagrange, GA wedding was the perfect start to the spring wedding season! The overcast skies provided the perfect lighting early in the day, and the clouds broke just enough to create a beautiful sunset after their ceremony. The key feature of their venue, Oakfuskee Conservation Center, is a sprawling 80 year old slash pine tree that stands alone next to the water and served as the backdrop to their ceremony. Olivia was able to creatively incorporate the silhouette of this special tree throughout the day’s details. It all came together so beautifully!
Oakfuskee has a beautiful bridal suite where the girls can get ready. After Olivia’s mom helped her into her dress, they exchanged some sentimental gifts. I always love these sweet moments with parents before the chaos of the day starts! Olivia had emotional first looks with both her dad and Windell. The Barfields decided to exchange private vows, which is always such a sweet addition to the day. I love that sharing private vows gives an opportunity to express your feelings in a more personal way than the traditional vows, without having to share all of those thoughts with a hundred or more guests. After their first looks, we moved into portraits before the ceremony.
Under the branches of the venue’s signature tree, the Barfields exchanged vows in front of their closest family and friends. Their officiant shared about the meaning and beauty of Christian marriage, and Olivia and Windell took communion together as their first act as a married couple. Just as the ceremony ended, the clouds broke open a bit and gorgeous sunlight flooded the lawn.
Following the ceremony, we took a few photos with their getaway car before heading in for first dances and dinner! Windell and Olivia’s first dance did not disappoint! Before dinner, Olivia’s dad offered a sweet toast and prayer for the couple. As we stepped outside after dinner for some sunset portraits, Windell said “hey G.” Olivia explained to me that just over a year ago when she found out that her grandfather had passed, there was a beautiful sunset. Since then, sunsets have always felt like a reminder of his love. It was the most beautiful way to remember him on their wedding day.
As the evening continued, the reception dancing really got started when the live band took over and kept the dance floor full for hours. Everyone was dancing, laughing, and enjoying the fantastic music by Frankie Mincey and the Georgia Gentlemen! Olivia and Windell’s families definitely know how to have fun! As the party came to an end, the Barfields had a “grand exit” and shared a romantic private last dance.
